Lion's Gaze

Here's my first painting using Pan Pastels.  I love this medium.
I call this Lion's Gaze, thanks to Patricia Otten and Donna Ridgeway.  I liked their ideas and combined them.

Here I had just sketched it out using the gray pan pastel.
I started adding color.
I added more color, and this is when I noticed that his eyes were too far apart.  Should have paid better attention during the sketch.
Wonderful thing about pan pastels is that they are very forgiving.  You can erase mistakes.
I used a light blue colored pencil for part of his eye, but it really washed it out in the photo.  So I went back over it with black pan pastels.
Here it is again.  The finished painting.

Week 3 of Mugs, bags and T's

I'd like to share with you some fabulous products from my peeps from Zazzle Gallery Directory, where we help promote each other.  It's a lot of fun looking through everyone's shops, but it's not always easy picking just one item from each shop.  I hope you enjoy, and be sure to check out their shops.

Paint Party Friday - Teeth

Welcome to PPFPaint Party Friday is hosted by Kristin and EVA.  I have not participated in PPF for such a long time, and am excited to do so this week.  I hope you follow the link and check out everyone's paintings.  It's really fun to see. So lets get started.
My daughter is studying to be a Deantal Assistant and will be graduating this spring.  She asked me to paint a couple of cute teeth that she can use to make stickers for a project she is doing.  So, introducing, Boy tooth aceo...
and Girl Tooth aceo.  Ya, I know, very creative names.  LOL

Then...

here is my Red Panda aceo.  Originally I was going to have his tail hanging down, but somehow I forgot about it while painting.  I still haven't decided if I am going to leave it as is, or add the tail in.

Have a wonderful weekend.
hugs,
Brenda

Chilly Little Penguin Original Oil Painting

I thought I'd show you my newest finished painting.  I call it Chilly Little Penguin.
Chilly Little Penguin
5x7 oil available at my Etsy shop
This is an African Penguin, also known as a (Blackfooted or Jackass penguin), I know, weird, right?
There are 17 - 20 different kinds of penguins, apparently there's a debate on exactly how many.  Penguins are non flying, aquatic birds and spend half of their life in the ocean.  They use their 'wings' as flippers and usually live on uninhabited islands where there are no predators, at least that's what one site said.  Penguins feed on krill, squid, fish and other forms of sealife that they catch while they are swimming. Yum!
I just think they're cute.

Have a great day,
Brenda

Penguin Painting

Wow, its been a long time since I blogged.  Lets see if I can get back into the habit.
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year!
Over Christmas, my 20 year old daughter went to California to spend time with my brother and his family.  She had a blast and took a LOT of pictures.  Of course, being such a sweetheart and supporter of my artwork, she encourages me to use her photos.  I have always wanted to do a penguin painting, but could never get a decent enough photo because of the glass being dirty or whatever at zoos.  Jessica got some great shots, and this is the first of several that I am going to do.  It's an 8x10 oil on stretched canvas, stapled on the back.  I call it Penguins.  I know, very creative title, right:? : )

I'm not sure if I'm done fiddling with it or not.  Am anxious to start on my next one, which I already have sketched out on the canvas.  Hoping to do that today.
You have a wonderful day, and if you live where it's cold, like I do, I pray you keep warm.  Brrrrrr
hugs,
Brenda
